(SNN)- It has been reported that a fuel tanker carrying about 45,000 litres of petrol (Premium Motor Spirit) on Saturday fell and exploded at Olambe along Matogun road in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Our reporters learnt that the spilled petrol from the fallen tanker exploded into flames, engulfing everything in its path.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to our correspondent, some of the content of the tank was already spilled onto the road before the tanker fell.
As at press time, no one could tell who owns the burnt tanker, since it was unmarked, and the driver of the tanker is nowhere to be found.
They added that the driver who is now at large couldn’t control the vehicle before it later fell on the road.
According to our correspondent, men of the Nigerian Fire Service eventually arrived the scene, but not after two churches, shops, and about 8 residential houses have been destroyed in the inferno.
Residents and shop owners could be seen weeping uncontrollably while watching their properties go up in flames.
This is not the first incident of tanker explosion in the state.
